Keggy the Keg
Keggy the Keg is the unofficial mascot of Dartmouth College, an Ivy League school in Hanover, New Hampshire. He's an anthropomorphic beer keg who was created in 2003 by members of the college humor magazine the Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern. Keggy was born to fill the mascot void that followed the abolition of the unofficial Native American mascot in 1974.
At first, Keggy was controversial on Dartmouth's campus. Some people thought it was inappropriate to have a beer keg as a mascot. Others thought it was hilarious. But over time, Keggy has become an "ingrained part of Dartmouth culture." He's featured on merchandise, he's celebrated at sporting events, and he's even been featured in national media.
So next time you're in Hanover, be sure to look out for Keggy the Keg. He's a friendly, fun-loving mascot who's sure to put a smile on your face.
